After picking up a victory over Orlando Pirates, to maintain a perfect record after three Absa Premiership games, Steve Komphela has begun to focus on his reunion with Kaizer Chiefs.

Komphela endured a two-and-a-half-year trophyless reign at Naturena and left the club under a cloud of controversy following the crowd violence after a Nedbank Cup semi-final loss to Free State Stars, which forced the coach’s resignation.

The former Chiefs coach has, however, found redemption at Bloemfontein Celtic. Phunya Sele Sele extended their perfect start to the season with a 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to SuperSport TV after the match, Komphela admitted that he won’t let emotion play a role in his next match against his former employers.

‘It’s only fair not to be emotional. This one is out of our way, take it one game at a time.

‘Then we’ll go into the next match, look at what their strengths are, weaknesses and where we can probably work better,’ added the former Bafana Bafana midfielder.

Komphela also praised Bongani Sam, whose acrobatic finish proved enough to secure the three points.

‘But the most important one was that we scored a goal and when Bongani scored, you could see the kid losing himself. I said at half-time that… if I were him, I’d do the same [take off the shirt in celebration].

‘In fact, I’d literally walk home. A kid scoring in a big match of this calibre. When he threw the shirt, I knew that you can’t do anything about it, you just need to protect him. I’m happy with the result for them,’ he concluded.
