Former Bafana Bafana star Siphiwe Tshabalala made his official debut for new club Erzurumspor, coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir, writes DEAN WORKMAN.

After shocking everyone in the South African football fraternity by making the move to Turkish outfit Erzurumspor, the 33-year-old came on as a 76th-minute sub to make his first appearance for the club. He, however, did not make an impact as his side slumped to a 1-0 home defeat and sit bottom of the log with one point from four games.

Bongani Zungu

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter will be holding his breath after the Amiens midfielder was stretchered off after 60 minutes in his side’s 0-0 draw with Saint-Etienne. With Bafana’s crucial Afcon qualifier against Libya less than a week away, the injury – which looks to be a significant one – will come as a blow to the national team.


Lebogang Phiri

After picking up a hamstring injury in his side’s opening Ligue 1 defeat to Saint-Etienne, Phiri was not available for Guingamp, who slumped to a 2-1 home defeat against Toulouse in the South African’s absence.

Lebo Mothiba

The South African striker made a big-money move this past week as he swapped French side Lille for another team in Ligue 1, Strasbourg. Mothiba, despite only completing the transfer on Friday, was brought on after 60 minutes. He, however, could not get off to a winning start as Strasbourg lost 3-2 against Nates.

Keagan Dolly

The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward has struggled for game time so far this season. He may have started the opening game of the season, as his team were beaten 2-1 at home by Dijon, but then missed his side’s next two games. The Bafana Bafana star made his return to action, but it was only as an 86th-minute substitute in his team’s 1-0 win over Reims.

Percy Tau

After making his full debut last weekend, Tau was hoping to fire his side to their second win of the season. Union Saint-Gilloise, however, were beaten 1-0 against Beerschot Wilrijk and now sit sixth in the eight-team league after picking up just one win in four games.

Kamahelo Mokotjo

After being rested in Brentford’s 1-0 win over Cheltenham Town in their midweek EFL Cup clash, Mokotjo returned to action by coming on as a 71st-minute substitute and helped his team push on to secure all three points with a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.
