All-rounder Wiaan Mulder has been ruled out of the remainder of South Africa’s ODI series against Zimbabwe.
Mulder has been sidelined by a left ankle injury sustained earlier this week.
‘Wiaan felt some pain and discomfort in his left ankle at practice and has been withdrawn from the remainder of the ODI series,’ said team manager and doctor Mohammed Moosajee.
‘He will be assessed by an ankle and foot specialist in Johannesburg, who will be able to further assess the injury and give us a way forward in terms of the treatment and rehab strategy.’
South Africa will not replace Mulder in the squad.
Batsman Khaya Zondo replaced Mulder in the XI for Wednesday’s second ODI a Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
The right-handed Mulder took one wicket and struck 14 not out in the series opener at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley last week, when the Proteas won by five wickets.
The 20-year-old has played seven ODIs since October 2017’s debut against Bangladesh in East London. He was named in the squad for the Test series against Australia earlier this year, but did not play a match.
The home side are also without the injured Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis – and rested David Miller and Quinton de Kock.
Three T20Is against the same opposition will follow the ODI series.
