Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas says he will not take this weekend’s Macufe Cup encounter against Steve Komphela’s Bloemfontein Celtic lightly.
Amakhosi have the opportunity to iron out any chinks in their armor during the international break as they do duty against Celtic annual Macufe Festival on Sunday (3pm).
The Soweto giants will look to get back to winning ways following a two-game winless streak in the Absa Premiership and Solinas believes that the annual cup could not have come at a better time for them, citing the imminent returns of injured stars Leonardo Castro and Andriamirado ‘Dax’ Andrianarimanana.
‘I am happy about the break. So we can focus on the recovery of Leonardo Castro and Andriamirado ‘Dax’ Andrianarimanana. We will also concentrate on improving our play.’ he told his club’s official website.
‘The game is important as it will be competitive and give us a chance to try out various combinations, especially with six players away on national duty,’ he concluded.
The Soweto giants will be without the services of Itumeleng Khune, Ramahlwe Mphahlele (Bafana Bafana), Godfrey Walusimbi (Uganda), Teenage Hadebe, Khama Billiat (both with Zimbabwe) and Virgil Vries (Namibia) who are set for national team duty with their respective teams.
