Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane would like to keep the club’s supporters happy by adding the Telkom Knockout Cup to their trophy collection.

The Brazilians were drawn against Bloemfontein Celtic in the first round of the Telkom Knockout Cup which will take place at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on the weekend of 19-20 October.

Mosimane’s side have been on a good run of form recent and following their goalless draw against Celtic over the weekend they have now extended their unbeaten run to 20-games.

Having already lifted the Absa Premiership this years, Mosimane will be hoping to continue their good run of lifting silverware every year in order to repay the faith their faithful supporters has shown them over the years.

‘It’s good to be playing at home,’ Mosimane told his club’s official website.

‘I like playing at home. You should understand the mentality of the game at home, our supporters love trophies. You can’t say that we’re prioritising the Champions League.’

‘That would be a mistake. Our supporters would kill us if you say that. What’s important is to try and make them happy and keep going. The longer we keep going without a trophy, the more there will be trouble.

He added: ‘If you have congested fixtures like Sundowns and you’re out of a cup, it frees you to concentrate on the league and the Champions League but we have a cup that everyone loves. Our team wants the cup and we want it.

‘It has been the norm at Sundowns, that every year there must be a cup won ever since I have been here. There must be one to land, hopefully it’s this one.’

Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Bloemfontein Celtic in the Telkom Knockout Cup at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on the weekend of 19-21 October with the kick off time yet to be confirmed.
