Faf du Plessis and David Miller’s incredible centuries punished Australia as the Proteas posted 320-5 in Hobart.

The Proteas marked their 600th ODI with another top-order collapse. Quinton de Kock was gone for four, Reeza Hendricks for eight and Aiden Markram for 32 as the Proteas were 55-3 after 15.3 overs.

Markram’s wicket was the most disappointing of the lot, the 23-year-old starting brightly by hitting three sixes and a four, before feathering a Mitchell Starc delivery darting down the leg-side. Hendricks fell to the same delivery but from Marcus Stoinis, who took a wicket in his first over.

Similarly to Adelaide, it was up to Miller and Du Plessis to keep their side in the game. But this time the pair were phenomenal, both with a century and a mammoth partnership.

Miller bettered this, he was saved by DRS on 41 and went on to reach his ton in 95 balls, the fastest century for a South African against Australia Down Under and his fifth ODI ton. He smashed 139 off 108 balls that included 13 fours an four sixes – three of those fours and a six came in the 47th over, when he punished Pat Cummins. He too lost his wicket, finding Aaron Finch at deep midwicket, Josh Hazlewood picking up his first.

Australia conceded 130 off the last 10 overs as the Proteas ended on 320-5. This was the first time the Proteas scored 300 in Australia and is their highest total against Australia Down Under.
