Wayne Sandilands picked up the man-of-the-match accolade as Orlando Pirates defeated arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in their MultiChoice Diski Challenge Soweto derby affair.

The Buccaneers broke the deadlock as early as the second minute when Simiso Bophel’s pinpoint ball into the area found Lebohang Sepeng, who made no mistake.

Chiefs upped their tempo in search of the equaliser and should have been level on the 15th minute, but Given Thibedi lost his footing at a crucial moment with just Sandilands to beat.

Arthur Zwane’s side well in full control of the game, but struggled to break down a resilient Bucs defence, with Sandilands often proving the difference between the two teams.

In the second half, Zwane opted for his final roll of the dice as he introduced Yaseen Bunting. The striker had several opportunities but failed to score past the experienced Sandilands.
