Quinton de Kock’s 46-ball 93 helped the Cape Town Blitz step closer to securing a home final as they crushed the Paarl Rocks by six wickets, reports KHALID MOHIDIN from Newlands.

Newlands hosted the Mzansi Super League’s fierce Cape Town battle between the Blitz and the Paarl Rocks under Friday Night lights.

The Blitz bounced back from their slippery run of form after two losses and a washout had stalled their table-topping start to the season. They took the fight to their rivals, restricting the visitors to 144-9, with the Rocks led solely by their captain marvel Faf du Plessis, who scored a superb 61 off 39 balls.

Brilliant bowling from Dale Steyn (2-22), Nandre Burger (2-26), Malusi Siboto (2-27) and Ferisco Adams (1-27) got the Blitz off to the perfect start, dismissing Aiden Markram (eight), Cameron Delport (24) and Vaughn van Jaarsveld (14).

From there on it was a struggle for runs from the men in purple, who managed to push themselves to 144.

The Blitz paced themselves to a steady start, led by their charismatic opening duo Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock.

De Kock dished out most of the thrashing with his 93 off 46, balls sending the Blitz to an inevitable victory. When he lost his wicket, only 17 was needed off less than seven overs.

The Blitz managed to seal a simple victory, despite the fall of Janneman Malan (26), Dawid Malan (seven) and Asif Ali.

Farhaan Behardien and Andile Phehlukwayo ensured the victory as the Cape Town Blitz picked up the bonus-point win that has taken them one step closer to securing their table-topping status.
