Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has set the record straight regarding the club’s reported links with former Al Ahly and TP Mazembe coach Patrice Carteron.
Carteron was rumoured to be in the running for the Chiefs job prior to the start of the 2018-19 campaign. However, the move didn’t materialise despite the Frenchman going on record and confirming Chiefs’ interest in him.
Following Amakhosi’s sacking of Italian coach Giovanni Solinas and subsequent re-appointment of German tactician Ernst Middendorp, Motaung weighed with his sentiments after Carteron’s latest links to the Naturena-based outfit which appeared on Ahly’s website.
‘I am the one responsible for contacting coaches, even if the mandate is from the club. But I have never contacted him and I have never contacted his agent,’ Motaung said.
‘I have never met the guy, I have never interviewed him. So there’s nothing of such,’ he concluded.
Carteron’s reign at the club of the century didn’t last too long, with the Egyptian giants sacking him in November after he lost in the Caf Champions League final to Esperance.
Middendorp is set for his second baptism of fire at Chiefs as they take on SuperSport United in their Absa Premiership clash at Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday night.
