Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp reserved special praise for defensive duo Daniel Cardoso and Mario Booysen in the club’s 1-0 victory against SuperSport United.
Middendorp managed to get his second spell at Chiefs off to a winning start, courtesy of captain George Maluleka’s lone strike in the second half of the clash.
The German tactician said that they were worthy winners of the clash, in addition to heaping praise on Booysen and Cardoso.
‘I think well deserved three points was what was important for us today, [having] the short period to prepare, I think we’ve seen a good game, good performance from the players,’ he said in post-match comments.
‘I want to mention in case we have another misunderstanding, I think Daniel Cardoso and Mario Booysen are a good solid centre-back combination.
‘We should have gone for the second goal in the second half to make it a bit calm, but I must say I’m very happy [about the performance],’ he concluded.
Chiefs occupy fifth spot on the Absa Premiership table – six points behind table-toppers Orlando Pirates.
