SuperSport United have confirmed that after extended negotiations the club has come to an amicable agreement to part ways with Thuso Phala.
Phala joined Matsatsantsa on a free transfer from Platinum Stars in July 2013 and was part of the team that won the Telkom Knockout in 2014, back- to-back Nedbank Cup wins in 2016 and 2017, and an MTN8 title in 2017.
In a statement released by the club, SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews stated, ‘We are sad to see Thuso go. He has been a part of the club through an extremely successful period in the Club’s history, 4 cup wins and a further 3 cup finals, including the Caf Confederation Cup final. His career here was full of memorable moments, including the goal to win the Telkom Knockout in 2014, and his vital goal against Zesco United to take us into the semi-final of the Caf Confederation Cup. We will especially miss Thuso’s unique dance moves and celebrations, and his character in the dressing room.’
The 32-year-old former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns player will now be available on a free transfer.

‘Thuso has been instrumental in the club’s success, winning four trophies and competing in three cup finals. Thuso has seen his career grow after many years of service at SuperSport after he arrived from Platinum Stars in 2013,’ said executive manager of Quality Talent Sports, Basia Michaels, the agency that manages Phala.
In the past, Matthews had previously stated Phala was the club’s highest-paid player and his initial omission from the squad had been due to the players off-field issues.
