Reeza Hendricks appreciated the Player of the Series accolade, on the back of South Africa’s three-nil series victory over Sri Lanka in Sunday’s rain-affected 45-run victory at the Wanderers.
Hendricks weathered a poor stretch of form in the preceding ODI series against the same opposition, scoring one, 29, four and eight in the five fixtures. Last week, however, he gathered 65 and 66 in Centurion and Johannesburg.
‘It has been a dry couple of days after the ODI series, but I am quite pleased with the T20Is – it was a good team performance. I am just happy I could contribute for the team,’ said Hendricks.
Sunday’s half-century proved particularly impressive, setting a platform for all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius to later capitalise. Hendricks’ 66 was followed by Pretorius unbeaten 77, which allowed the Proteas a hefty total of 198 for two.
The Sri Lankans were then limited to 137 all out – and consigned to a second series whitewash of the tour.
‘I thought I had to go for it with a few overs remaining. Dwaine played really well – he made it really easy for me. I am quite pleased overall,’ added Hendricks.
This was South Africa’s last formal assignment prior to the World Cup in the United Kingdom later this year. Their opening fixture of the 2019 global ODI showpiece will be against tournament co-hosts England at The Oval in London on 30 May.
