Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho has urged his side not to underestimate Free State Stars in their upcoming Absa Premiership encounter on Saturday.
The Glamour Boys will be hoping to push for a better position in the league standings when they welcome Ea Lla Koto to the Mbombela Stadium this weekend.
Ernst Middendorp’s men currently occupy seventh place on the PSL table with 38 points, trailing joint log-leaders Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns by 15 points with two games remaining in the Absa Premiership.
Gordinho insists that the team’s physical conditioning is still at its peak despite showing signs of fatigue as they continue to prepare for their upcoming PSL clashes against Stars and Chippa United, while also having to take on TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final.
‘I think everybody is feeling the effects in terms of physical conditioning, but we’ve been training well with our fitness coach, Jarred Marsh. Despite any fatigue, the boys should be able to push through and give two huge performances before the Nedbank Cup final,’ Gordinho told his club’s official website.
‘We have to go out there with guns blazing for the kill. Free State Stars won’t be an easy game because they are a team fighting relegation, and they will want to get a result. We’ll have to assert ourselves from the get-go.’
The 24-year-old centre back was given a starting berth in their previous match against Bloemfontein Celtic, where he had spent a season and a half on loan before returning to Amakhosi.
‘Arriving midway through the season wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be,’ Gordinho continued, ‘but at the same time it wasn’t as difficult. The transition went well. It’s been good getting back with the guys and working hard at training.
‘The game against Celtic wasn’t the best, and this has made it that more important for these next two matches to go well. The priority right now is to gather momentum to finish the season on a high and win the Nedbank Cup.’
The match at the Mbombela Stadium kicks off at 3pm.
