Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia has confirmed the signing of defender Kwanda Mngonyama from Cape Town City.
The 25-year-old has returned to the Team of Choice after a successful spell at the Citizens which saw him help City win their maiden MTN8 trophy in 2018.
Mngonyama previously enjoyed three successful campaigns with Maritzburg on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, before joining CT City at the beginning of the 2017-18 season.
Speaking on the return of Mngonyama, Kadodia said: ‘Kwanda is a KZN boy who wanted to return home,’ Kadodia told the club’s official website.
‘A deal has been finalised with Cape Town City and we welcome him home with open arms.
‘He did very well for us in his previous spell, and being familiar with the setup in Pietermaritzburg, Kwanda will be able to hit the ground running and will provide another excellent option for coach Eric Tinkler in our defence,’ he concluded.
Maritzburg also confirmed that they are looking to capture the services of Judas Moseamedi on a permanent deal after he spent the second half of the 2018-19 campaign on loan from City.
‘Contrary to media reports, Judas Moseamedi’s loan stay from Cape Town City has not yet been made into a permanent deal, although the club is hopeful that will happen soon,’ a statement from the club read.
