Orlando Pirates new signing Austin Muwowo has won the Player of the Year award in his home country after his impressive performance for Forest Rangers last season.

The 22-year-old winger is yet to make his official debut for the Buccaneers since joining the club during the off-season.

The Zambia international bagged the Zambian Super League Player of the Year award after netting 10 goals and eight assists, despite being utilised as a midfielder instead of in his natural position on the flank.

‘I feel excited right now. I don’t know how I can express myself, it’s really a great honour to get this, really I want to thank God, my teammates at Forest Rangers I want to say thank you,’ Muwowo told the media in Zambia.

‘I dreamed about winning it, it’s a dream a come true. I want to thank the coaches for the support and for all the encouragement that came from them and the pushing to work hard.’

Muwowo will be hoping to make his debut when Pirates take on AmaZulu in the Absa Premiership at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday, with kick-off set for 7:30pm.
