Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says his side are like a Formula One car this season compared to the Fiat Panda they were last season, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
The Glamour Boys maintained their unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership after securing a 2-1 victory over Cape Town City at Newlands Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The victory kept Amakhosi at the top of the league standings with 10 points, while the Citizens dropped down to eighth place with five points after four matches played so far this season.
Middendorp reiterated that the likes of Erick Mathoho and Lebogang Manyama are like new signings after their return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury.
‘If you want to go into a Formula One race and if, unfortunately, you have a Fiat Panda you can’t win‚ you can’t compete‚’ said Middendorp.
‘So,m it was very important for us to look at which type of players that were available for us to get and which players we had coming back from injury.
‘Players like Lebogang Manyama and Eric Mathoho … I’ve been repeating it over and over again that they are like new players for us.
‘Plus, of course, those that we signed like Kearyn Baccus‚ Lazarus Kambole and Samir Nurkovic.
‘Yagan Sasman is a huge addition for us because he is flexible at either left back or as a left-side central back.
‘This is what we have been working on.’
