Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka believes his side can’t fall short this season because of the quality signings brought into the club.
Chiefs endured a disastrous 2018-19 campaign, which culminated in a record-low finish in the Absa Premiership and their embarrassing loss to TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final.
However, they have made a great start to the current season, winning three and drawing one of their opening four league games as they enter the international break at the top of the Absa Premiership.
The impact of the new signings in Samir Nurkovic, Kearyn Baccus and Lazarous Kambole has been highlighted by midfielder Maluleka, who believes they are heading in the right direction.
‘If you look at the signings that were brought in, these are more experienced guys; whereby if you look at last season, there were a lot of youngsters promoted,’ said Maluleka.
‘So, obviously you can already see the direction of the signings. We know it’s been a very difficult past few seasons and that needs to change, no doubt about it. We are doing everything in our power to make sure this season changes that.
‘It’s very disappointing [to miss out on the MTN8] – it is. And, obviously, it’s something that we didn’t want as a club, but we have another season to rectify all of that,’ added the midfielder on his side missing out on the first trophy of the season.
‘I think with the squad that we have, and of course the additions that came through, we can’t fall short this time around,’ he concluded.
