Former Cape Town City captain and Bidvest Wits defender Robyn Johannes has signed for Stellenbosch FC on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old has been without a club for just over a week following his release from Wits due to financial issues at the Clever Boys.
Johannes was constantly linked with a move back to the Citizens in his hometown of Cape Town earlier in the transfer window, but despite Benni McCarthy’s public plea to re-sign the defender he has joined their Cape rivals, Stellenbosch.

The newly promoted side confirmed the signing via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, with Johannes getting on a two-year deal and an option to renew for a further year.
The experienced central defender joins a number of seasoned Absa Premiership pros who have signed for the Western Cape side – such as Marc Van Heerden, Ryan Moon and Morgan Gould – before the start of the season.
Johannes could be set to make his debut this weekend when Steve Barker’s side travel to face Bloemfontein Celtic at Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
