Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp believes his side reached their objective against AmaZulu after walking away with all three points on Tuesday.
The Glamour Boys returned to winning ways after claiming a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Usuthu at the King Zwelithini Stadium through two late goals from Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat.
The victory moved Amakhosi back to the top of the Absa Premiership standings on 13 points, level with second-placed Polokwane City, and they now have four wins, one draw and one defeat from six matches played so far this season.
Middendorp confirmed that Samir Nurković (head), Reeve Frosler (ankle) and Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya (leg) will be assessed on Wednesday to ascertain the extent of their respective injuries.
‘Actually, we dominated the first half of the game,’ Middendorp told his club’s official website.
‘We had a moment with Nurković‘s head injury which resulted in several stop-starts which affected our momentum. We had forced changes which also affected our flow.
‘We came to Durban knowing it was going to be tough.
‘I am happy with the three points because that’s what we discussed during the week. I’m glad we achieved our objective of coming here. That’s collecting the three points and that’s what we did – thanks to the team performance.’
Middendorp also commented on Usuthu’s disallowed goal that was ruled offside by the match official.
‘It’s always after the game when we lament the mistakes that the referee committed,’ he added. ‘The referee is duty bound to make calls, and that’s how it happened. An offside is offside; I could sit here reminding everyone about the brutal tackles during the game. And that will not change the results.’
Kaizer Chiefs will be hoping to extend their winning run when they host Baroka in their next Absa Premiership encounter at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off set for 6pm.
