Bidvest Wits moves up to second place in the Absa Premiership standings after claiming a 1-0 victory over Chippa United at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Tuesday evening, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
The Chili Boys came into this encounter off the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat by Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium in their previous league match.
Meanwhile, the Clever Boys advanced to the next round of the Caf Confederation Cup after claiming a 3-0 victory over Young Buffaloes in the second leg of their first-round encounter over the weekend.
The game got off to a slow start with both sides trying to find their rhythm in the opening exchanges.
However, neither side were able to carve out any real chances in the final third as the game went into the break locked at 0-0.
The second half produced more of the same as both sides struggled to conjure up any scoring opportunities going forward.
Gavin Hunt opted to bring on a greasy pair of legs when he introduced Gift Motupa in place of Terrence Dzvukumanja.
The Clever Boys eventually broke the deadlock and put the game to bed in the 89th minute when Buhle Mkhwanazi found the net with two minutes left to play.
Wits held on to their lead over Chippa United until the final whistle to claim all three points away from home.
