Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane conceded that his team were second best to Kaizer Chiefs in the first half of the Shell Helix Ultra Cup but believes his side should’ve scored six goals in the second half.

The Glamour Boy blew away the Brazilians in the first half of the second exhibition match between the sides as former Downs forwards Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro rang riot.

Castro bagged a first half hat-trick, all assisted by Billiat, before the Zimbabwean forward netted a goal of his own, with Castro turning provider, to hand Ernst Middendorp’s chargers an emphatic 4-0 first half lead.

Downs though fought back in the second stanza and pulled two goals back but ultimately went down 4-2.

Speaking to SABC TV after the game Mosimane admitted that he was left disappointed by his side’s wastefulness in front of goal.

‘We played well [in] the second half, you have to make the changes, you gotta give Aubrey Ngoma a chance, you gotta give Andile Jali a chance, you gotta give Oupa Manyisa a chance, you gotta give them a chance to play and that’s what we did,’ said the former Bafana Bafana coach.

‘And Chiefs were better than us in the first half, in the midfield we didn’t press the ball. The ball that was put through all the time we didn’t press it,’ he continued.

‘But you have to understand the midfield that is playing now is not really the midfield that is always playing when we apply a lot of pressure and press the ball. That’s what happened and they got the goals, the goals were good and legitimate. They were right goals, that’s what happened in the first half.

‘But in the second half, we should have had [scored] six goals, let’s be honest. Unbelievable misses, it’s not funny. So this game could have turned around to 5 or 6 but ‘could have’, ‘should have’ doesn’t work, you have to put the ball in the back of the net. That’s all.’
