Bafana Bafana are set to be without midfielder Bongani Zungu for their Afcon 2021 qualifier against Sudan on Sunday after aggravating a knee injury in the 2-0 loss against Ghana on Thursday.
Bafana were downed in the Group C opener at the Cape Coast Stadium on Thursday evening where the Aimnes midfielder was forced off in the first half through injury.
Zungu came into the camp carrying the knee niggle after missing out in the previous international break where Bafana beat Mali in the Nelson Mandela Challenge.
He, however, looked to have regained fitness in France but came into the game against the Black Stars with a heavily strapped knee.
Speaking after the match Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki revealed that Zungu will not be available for Bafana’s next game against Sudan on Sunday.
‘We are fully aware that we were playing the first match in Ghana and the second match in South Africa. I think you saw everybody who was in this camp will be available for Sunday except for Bongani Zungu who has a knee injury. So, we have a balanced team. We selected a balanced team and I’m looking forward to playing the best team on Sunday and do well for ourselves and win the match,’ said Ntseki.
Bafana are next in action against Sudan at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
