Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki has explained why Percy Tau was given a wider role in the 1-0 win over Sudan in their Afcon 2021 qualifier over the weekend.
The Club Brugge forward was deployed in a wider then normal berth against Sudan and noticeably took every opportunity to run at at Sudanese right back Mohamed El-Rasheed.
Speaking after the game, coach Ntseki admitted that they did their homework on Sudan and thought that they could get at El-Rasheed after his scouts revaled that he was not a natural defender.
‘We played Percy on the left wing because we have profiled their right back – he is actually a right winger converted to be a right back.
‘So we knew that Percy would always have a go at him and I think he did exactly that,’ Ntseki explained.
It was thought pre-match that Tau would be playing off Strasbourg striker Lebo Mothiba and his wider role may have shocked a few, but his influence down the side was clear to see and he was unlucky not to grab an assist or two from out wide.
