Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane feels it is too early to start regarding Kaizer Chiefs as favourites to clinch the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title this season.
The Glamour Boys currently have a 10-point lead at the top of the Absa Premiership standings, with a total of 28 points after 11 games played so far this season.
Meanwhile, Sundowns occupy second place with 18 points after 10 games, having won five, drawn three and conceded two defeats in the league.
Amakhosi are currently on a six-match winning run in the league, but Mosimane believes the PSL title will only be decided in May, despite Chiefs’ good run of form.
‘At this point in time, who has the league title? It’s us. We have the league title, it’s in Chloorkop. No one has it. And we are defending it. All this other noise, it’s a good noise, but where’s the trophy? It’s in Chloorkop,’ Mosimane told the media.
‘The other one [MTN8] is at SuperSport, they are all in Tshwane. Those are the last two trophies. It’s how you finish. You can start very well and look very good and promising and say, “This is the year.” Let’s talk in May, not now. That is the way it is.’
The Brazilians will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on AmaZulu in their next Absa Premiership encounter at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday, having not won a game in their last three PSL matches.
‘You can never become a bad team overnight, I mean really! How many times should we prove that we’re at this level? Just that we were not winning in the last three games and it makes a lot of noise … you know what I am trying to say,’ he added.
The match at Loftus Versfeld Stadium kicks off at 7:30pm on Tuesday.
