A so-called technical team will select the Proteas squads during the Test series against England later this year.
Cricket South Africa’s head of media and communications, Thamie Mthembu, however, has refused tor reveal the composition of the technical team.
CSA is currently without a convenor of selectors. Former convenor of selectors Linda Zondi’s tenure ended earlier this year. He has reportedly reapplied for the position, as have former Proteas fast bowler Monde Zondeki and Jozi Stars convenor of selectors Patrick Moroney.

‘There is a technical team that is responsible for the selection of players and a team that is responsible for ensuring that, come the date of the English tour or any other tour, there are players who’ve been selected. If you want us to go on a naming exercise, I’m afraid I will not engage in that,’ Mthembu was quoted as saying by IOL.
‘There are people within Cricket South Africa who have stepped up. There is a team of people that are responsible for delivering the South African team to compete with England for the upcoming series. There are capable people who will be responsible for performing these roles. South Africans and cricket fans must rest assured there will be a team come the date when the team is announced.’
The Proteas will host England for four Tests. The series opener will start at SuperSport Park in Centurion on 26 December.
CSA’s new director of cricket role, meanwhile, is still vacant. The position was created earlier this year, and is currently held by former coach Corrie van Zyl in an acting capacity. Van Zyl, though, is presently suspended.
Former Proteas captain Graeme Smith was interviewed for the post, but later formally withdrew interest.
‘The process of selecting the director of cricket is ongoing. The process is open and when that process is finalised, South Africans and cricket fans will be made aware who this person is,’ added Mthembu.
