Ajax Cape Town chairman Ari Efstathiou has dismissed allegations that the Urban Warriors bribed Uthongathi FC players before their GladAfrica Championship clash on Saturday.
The Cane Cutters recently claimed that the Mother City-based outfit reportedly offered some of their players money to throw the game before their clash over the weekend.
Uthongathi have stated they won’t be opening a case against the Urban Warriors as it would affect the result of the game, despite Uthongathi conceding a 3-1 defeat at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
However, Efstathiou has since said these types of allegations happen after every match.
‘It’s the easiest thing to spread a rumour. I mean, every match we play we hear other teams have tried the same thing,’ Efstathiou told KickOff.com.
‘It’s nonsense. I wouldn’t waste a minute on it. Ajax [Cape Town] have a huge reputation in the community of Cape Town and the Western Cape. We will never do such nonsense.’
The Urban Warriors currently sit at the summit of the GladAfrica Championship with 32 points from 15 matches played, a point above Uthongathi in second place.
