Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that right back Thapelo Morena has been discharged from hospital after undergoing surgery on his right ankle.
The 26-year-old sustained a fracture and ligament damage to his right ankle as Sundowns edged Tshwane rivals SuperSport United in their Nedbank Cup last-32 clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday.
Morena was unable to continue and is expected to be out for a lengthy period. He was stretchered off the pitch in the 69th minute after he twisted his ankle in a freak accident during a battle with SuperSport defender Onismor Bhasera.
However, Sundowns have since confirmed that Morena has been discharged from hospital after undergoing a successful operation on his ankle and will be reassessed in two weeks’ time.
The Bafana Bafana international has since expressed his gratitude for the messages of support he received.
‘I’m feeling much better and I’m happy that I’ve been discharged. Thank you for all the messages of support. I am ready to start the process of healing,’ Morena told his club’s official website.
