Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune believes he will retire at the club despite falling down the pecking order at Naturena this season.
Khune has been an integral part of the Chiefs set-up for over a decade and rightly earned his legendary status at the club and in South African football.
However, the past 18 months have not been kind to the Bafana Bafana international as he missed a lot of game time after suffering a couple of injuries.
In his absence Nigerian shotstopper Daniel Akpeyi has performed incredibly well, epitomised by his Man of the Match display in the Soweto derby over the weekend.
In the buildup to the clash with Pirates many wondered if Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp would bring back in the experience of Khune, but he stuck with Akpeyi who in turn repaid the faith shown in him by the German.
With Akpeyi looking more and more likely to retain his spot many have wondered if it’s time for Khune to leave the club he has been with his whole career. He nearly did leave in 2015 after initially failing to agree terms with the club over a new deal.
The 32-year-old revealed on Twitter that he has no plans to leave the club. One bold fan asked the keeper to join rival club Orlando Pirates, to which Khune responded, ‘I’ll retire at Kaizer Chiefs.’
I’ll retire @KaizerChiefs
