Former Bafana Bafana forward Katlego Mphela believes the Absa Premiership title is still in Kaizer Chiefs’ hands but they face a battle with Mamelodi Sundowns for the coveted prize.
The Glamour Boys currently sit at the top of the league standings with 48 points from 22 matches, while Pitso Mosimane’s side are placed second with 44 points trailing the log leaders by four.
Chiefs have recently dropped in form and managed to secure only two wins from their last five league games, allowing Sundowns to close the gap on them with a game in hand.
However, Mphela says Amakhosi can clinch the title this campaign but believes that Sundowns’ experience will ensure a fight till the end of the season.
‘I think Chiefs started well, they made sure they took points when they could and Sundowns always had games in hand,’ Mphela told KickOff.
‘The experience of the [Sundowns] coach and players, they are going to fight this until the end but I think it’s still in Chiefs’ hands.
‘It’s up to them to lose it, they are in control of the situation.
‘They just need to be consistent and if they can do that, they can win the league. If they keep on dropping points, Sundowns will capitalise on that and win it.’
