Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia has revealed that both Siyanda Xulu and Rushine De Reuck have not signed contract extensions but says everything is on hold because of the coronavirus lockdown.
Xulu, who has been linked with a move to Orlando Pirates, has been one of the rocks in the Team of Choice squad this season. But, with his contract set to expire at the end of June, his future remains in the balance with the 28-year-old reportedly keen on a big move.
Kadodia, though, insists that nothing will be done while the league is suspended and the country is in lockdown – which has halted talks with the players regarding their futures.
‘It’s not a secret that Siyanda’s contract will expire. Honestly, he has not renewed but there’s not much that we can really talk about [to the media] for now,’ Kadodia told Isolezwe.
‘We all know and see the situation right now. Everything has stopped. We [clubs] cannot focus on negotiations to transfer players.’
‘I can assure you that there’s no change [on De Reuck], he has not renewed and he’s still a Maritzburg player,’ added the chairman on the future of the promising defender.
Maritzburg have enjoyed a fruitful season under Tinkler during which they made the Telkom Knockout final and had an impressive league run to sit in the top five when the season was suspended.
However, it is looking more and more likely that a number of their top players have become transfer targets for the likes of Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
