England will start day four of the first Test against the West Indies with a 99-run deficit after a solid batting display by the visitors in Southampton.
The men from the Caribbean resumed their first innings on 57-1 on Friday and thanks to half-centuries by Kraigg Brathwaite and Shane Dowrich managed to post 318 before being dismissed by Ben Stokes’ England.
Highlights: West Indies take control
The captain was the pick of the home-team’s bowlers, claiming four West Indies scalps, while the experienced James Anderson also contributed with three wickets.
It presented the West Indies with a lead of 114 and despite having the opportunity to bowl ten overs at England before the close of play, openers Rory Burns and Dom Sibley weathered the onslaught from a tricky pace-attack to finish the day on 15-0.
Having lost almost the whole of the first day due to rain, the tight contest has presented the opportunity for an outcome with two full days still left to play and fortunately, no rain has been forecasted in Southampton for the remainder of the Test match.
