Jon Rahm claimed a second win in five PGA Tour starts by beating world No 1 Dustin Johnson in a playoff on Sunday to clinch the BMW Championship.
The Spaniard, who was in T51 after Thursday’s opening round, jumped up the leaderboard in a dramatic final round at Olympia Fields by shooting a spectacular six-under-par 64 – one of the lowest rounds of the week.
Johnson, on the other hand, held a share of the overnight lead with Hideki Matsuyama and, given his recent form, a big final-round showing was going to be on the cards.

The American concluded his week with a three-under 67 after he made an emphatic 33-foot par putt on the 18th hole to force a playoff with Rahm as both players finished on four under.
They returned to the par-four 18th and after Johnson made a solid par, Rahm had a small opportunity to edge to victory if he could sink a gigantic 66-foot putt for birdie.
Rahm once again proved his worth as one of the best golfers in the world, and why he is desperate to become the top-ranked player, as he sunk the monster putt from left to right, much to the surprise of millions of fans, who tuned in for the action.
At the age of only 25, it was Rahm’s fifth victory on the PGA Tour and he moved into second position in the FedEx Cup standings, behind Johnson, which will make for an exciting finale to the season when the top-30 players compete at this week’s Tour Championship.

Unfortunately, the South African pair of Louis Oosthuizen and Dylan Frittelli failed to make the qualifying group for the final event after they finished in T25 and T33, respectively, at the BMW Championship.
Two-time FedEx Cup champion Tiger Woods also missed out on the opportunity after he concluded in T51 at Olympia Fields on Sunday.
