Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has expressed his disappointment after his side missed out on the Absa Premiership title on the final day of the season.
The Soweto giants’ trophy drought continued after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Baroka at the Bidvest Stadium to hand Mamelodi Sundowns the title after Khama Billiat opened the scoring before Bakgaga levelled the game through Manuel Kambala.
However, Middendorp put his pride in his pocket and congratulated his counterpart Pitso Mosimane and Sundowns on successfully defending their title.
‘Of course, ending up with the possibilities in our own hands and ending up being second after having over 28 match days being in position 1 is of course disappointing,’ Middendorp told SuperSport TV after the game.
‘Congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns and Pitso (Mosimane) they won it. That’s basically in the moment what I can say.
‘Ja, I think strategically absolutely we had the dominance in the first half with the wide players and we had a very clear discussion at halftime, just push forward and look for the second goal.
‘Interestingly all of a sudden they stepped back and fouls after fouls around the box and good you can see it’s 1-1.
‘Then of course it gets difficult. Very, very difficult to play a team like Baroka which other teams have seen and experienced too.’
