Manchester United beat Real Sociedad 4-0 on Thursday evening, while Tottenham Hotspur trounced Wolsfsberger 4-1 as both English teams took a step towards the last 16 of the Europa League with comprehensive first-leg victories.

Solskjaer’s men missed a number of chances in the opening stages, but they eventually took the lead when Bruno Fernandes pounced on a mix-up at the back to fire United into the lead with 27 minutes gone.
A quick start to the second half placed the Red Devils quickly out of sight as Fernandes, in 57th minute, and Rashford, in the 65th minute, hit the back of the net to give the English team a 3-0 advantage.
Dan James got a fourth late on as United now take a four-goal advantage into the second leg.

Wolsberger 1-4 Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs started the game on the front foot with Jose Mourinho having handed Dele Alli and Gareth Bale rare starts.
The Wales winger made an early impact as he set up Heung-min Son to open the scoring with 13 minutes played.
15 minutes later and it was 2-0 and as Bale turned from provider to scorer as he hit the back of the net to double Spurs’ lead. Lucas Moura then added a third with 34 minutes gone as Mourinho’s men looked to kill off the tie.
Wolfsberger showed some fight in the second half with Michael Liendl pulling one back from the spot 10 minutes into the half.
Spurs made a number of substitutes with one of them rounding off the game, Vinicius latching on to an Erik Lamela pass before slotting home and handing Tottenham a big first-leg advantage.
