Kaizer Chiefs handed Mamelodi Sundowns their first league defeat of the season with a come from behind 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon.
Sundowns looked to start on the front foot and looked to impose themselves through their control of possession.
It, however, took 15 minutes for the first chance of the game but Lebogang Maboe couldn’t keep down his volley after a corner into the box by Lyle Lakay.
Chiefs began to find their feet and had an opportunity of their own with 30 minutes gone as Leonardo Castro fired over after being set up by Khama Billiat.
Sundowns then hit the front five minutes later as Gaston Sirino went through on goal after being played in by Maboe, the Uruguayan rounded Itumeleng Khune and slotted home from a tight angle.
Chiefs’ hopes of mounting a comeback suffered a blow just befroe the break when Billiat had to be substituted with a knock, which propmted Gavin Hunt to introduce Dumisani Zuma.
Gavin Hunt looked to change the momentum in the second as he brought on star striker Samir Nurkovic in the 63rd minute.
It was, though, Downs who were creating the chances but were struggling to find the killer touch.
The game was then turned on its head in the space of a couple of minutes as first Nurkovic’s deflected cross come shot deflected off Mosa Lebusa and flew into the back of the net leaving Denis Onyango stranded and then just 75 seconds later, Njabulo Blom played a stunning through ball to release substitute Dumisani Zuma through on goal, the midfielder made no mistake and slotted the ball calmly past Onyango as the ball nestled in the bottom left corner.
Sundowns pushed hard to preserve their unbeaten run and find an equaliser but Amakhosi managed to hold on for what was a massive victory.
