Zamalek insist it is Pitso Mosimane and Al Ahly’s fault that head coach Patrice Cateron failed to arrive for his post-match media conference following their 5-3 defeat in the Cairo derby.
The club and coach were reportedly hit with a fine for failing to attend the conference after the defending Egyptian champions suffered a damaging defeat by their closest rivals last Friday.
Zamalek, though, have looked to shift the blame with the club’s managing director Amr Farouk Abul-Ezz insisting that the club only decided to withdraw their availability after waiting for Mosimane and assuming he would not be attending either.
“According to the regulations, the press conference begins 10 minutes after the match, in the presence of the coach of the away team,” he told ‘Koora Every Day’ on the Al-Hayat channel on Tuesday.
“We waited for 28 minutes, and the press conference did not start because Pitso Mosimane did not attend, we are Zamalek, we are not a small club, and it is not permissible to wait for anyone.
“We came to the press conference hall, and the coach of the opposing team or the match observer did not attend, and there are witnesses to the incident and, for this reason, we withdrew from the conference.”
