Al Ahly sporting director Sayed Abdelhafiz insists Pitso Mosimane deserves something great after achieving huge success at the club, with the coach’s contract talks continuing to stall.

Mosimane has been a revalation since joining the Egyptians, firmly establishing himself as one of the continent’s elite coaches as he has enjoyed both domestic and continental success with the Red Devils.

In his time at the club – just over a year – Jingles has led Al Ahly to two back-to-back Caf Champions League victories, two Caf Super Cups, and a Fifa Club World Cup third-place finish.

Despite all his success, there still seems to be an impasse with Al Ahly and Mosimane yet to reach an agreement regarding his contract extension as his current deal expires at season’s end.

Mosimane has publicly stated that money is not an issue, but he needs stability.

“Regarding my contract with Al Ahly, I am not sure where we are at, we negotiated before the Caf Champions League finale against Kaizer Chiefs, before the Super Cup against Raja Casablanca, and we are negotiating now ahead of the Fifa Club World Cup,” Pitso told Egyptian media last Friday after a game against Arab Contracters.

“Until this moment, we haven’t reached an agreement, there is no disagreement about the salary, but there are some issues regarding other points in the contract. I want to continue working with Al Ahly, the club knows that, but we haven’t reached an agreement yet, and I hope we do before the Club World Cup.

“The negotiations are between my agent and Amir Tawfik, the delay is not my choice or Al Ahly’s choice, but it’s not good that it’s taking a lot of time. I want to stay focused on my work, I’d like stability in my work environment, and I need to know what my future looks like before the Club World Cup.

“I am a professional, I am committed to my contract with Al Ahly, the club started negotiating a new contract with me, but while we haven’t reached an agreement, I am calm and focused,” he said.

The former Bafana Bafana coach’s comments have not gone down well with some at the club, who believe the coach is adding unnecessary pressure.

Sporting director Abdelhafiz, though, believes that Mosimane deserves something great for his success but could not outright confirm that he was staying.

“We sent our preliminary list for the Club World Cup, and Fifa gave us the permission to make changes up to 48 hours before the first match. We will also be allowed to make changes in the event of injuries such as Badr Banoun and Akram Tawfik,” Abdelhafiz told MBC Masr TV.

“There are eight days left until the transfer window closes. Everything is possible. We have a special opportunity to strengthen our defensive line. We will think about it.

“Al Ahly were very successful under Mosimane. Frankly, he deserves something great because he won a lot of titles. It’s true that the way Al Ahly is run helps any individual who comes to work here, but it’s important that Mosimane gets what he deserves.

“Al Ahly has a method and policy in negotiations. The two parties succeeded together, whether Mosimane continues with Al Ahly or not. There will certainly be a clear and explicit agreement that will be announced at the proper time.

“According to his contract, whether he decides to continue or he leave he will remain until the end of the season. As for what is rumoured about his departure in the current period, it doesn’t make sense for us criticise something and then do it.

“The main takeaway is that Mosimane achieved a lot with the club, whether he stays or not,” he concluded.
