Mamelodi Sundowns forward Thabiso Kutumela says his confidence has been lifted after scoring a brace during their Nedbank Cup clash against Mathaithai FC on Tuesday evening.
Kutumela rediscovered his form in front of goal after he grabbed a second half brace to help guide Sundowns to a comfortable 6-0 victory over the ABC Motsepe League outfit in the last 16.
The 28-year-old has now taken his goal tally up to four goals and five assists from 22 matches across all competitions playing for Sundowns so far this season.
The Brazilians has since become the first team in the DStv Premiership to advance to the quarter-finals. of the Nedbank Cup after making light work of Mathaithai FC.
Kutumela highlighted his impressive turnaround during the second half of the campaign after a slow start to the first half of the current season.
“My first half started off slow, I made some wrong decisions in some situations such as deciding to pass the ball when I should’ve taken a shot, or deciding to go for goal instead of passing, but I did enjoy that first half. In the second half I played much better, my game picked up and eventually I scored two goals which I think will boost my confidence going forward,” Kutumela told his club’s official website.
“After the first half ended and we were heading into the break, I was not happy with myself because I could see that the attackers in the team were scoring and I haven’t scored in a while but at least we all scored as attackers today and I’m also amongst the goalscorers.
“I felt really good after scoring, I’ve been wanting to score goals, I missed this feeling of scoring because it has been a while since I’ve scored goals. The first goal was a tap in, I had to work harder for the second one and probably get the third one too.”
