Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib received an official letter from Mamelodi Sundowns president Thlopane Motsepe, stating the Brazilians are committed to their historic relationship with the Egyptian giants.
When the Red Devils arrived at the FNB Stadium, Ahly were met by hundreds of Sundowns supporters who stopped their bus and didn’t allow them to reach the stadium on time.
As a result, the Red Eagles were forced to take another route to the stadium, which forced the club to arrive late ahead of their important fixture against Mosimane’s former side.
The current Caf Champions League holders did lodge a complaint with the match official before the encounter, with Sundowns now set to investigate the incident.
In the letter, the Sundowns president provided details about the bus incident which took place before their Caf Champions League Group A encounter at the FNB Stadium this past weekend.
Here is Motsepe’s official letter to Mahmoud El Khatib:
Dear President El Khatib,
I hope you and everyone at Al Ahly SC are keeping well.
The preliminary information that we received, indicates that the delay was caused by a traffic jam on the road leading to FNB Stadium where spectators joined the Al Ahly convoy while it was travelling to the stadium.
Sundowns has a duty and an obligation to ensure that Al Ahly is treated with the respect, courtesy, and dignity that it deserves.
Mamelodi Sundowns is committed to maintaining and building its historical relationship with Al Ahly for the long-term benefit and growth of both clubs, their supporters, and African football.
We wish you and Al Ahly everything of the best.
Sincerely yours,
Tlhopane Motsepe
Chairman
