Al Ahly sealed their progression to the Caf Champions League semi-finals in a 1-1 draw with Raja Casablanca in the second leg in Morocco on Friday night to advance with a 3-2 aggregate win.
The visitors came into the game holding a slender advantage thanks to their tight win in Egypt, but it was quickly wiped out as Fabrice Ngoma nodded home a cross from Abdelilah Madkour to make it 2-2 on aggregate, with the hosts having the advantage with the away goal from the first leg.
The lively start continued as Al Ahly were awarded a penalty in the 17th minute after VAR spotted a foul on Hussein El Shahat. Ali Maaloul took responsibility this time but his effort was kept out by Anas Zniti.
Mosimane’s charges pushed forward in the search of an equaliser and finally got one in the 44th minute as Mohamed Abdelmonem headed home Maaloul’s corner.
The defending champions then had the chance to hit the front when Percy Tau went through on goal, but he couldn’t keep his composure and failed to find the back of the net.
Both sides then looked for the all-important winner but, in the end, Mosimane’s men did enough to keep the defence of their crown alive.
