Pitso Mosimane has questioned whether it is the right time for Arthur Zwane to step into the hotseat at Kaizer Chiefs after more experienced coaches have failed, but added the young coach has nothing to lose.

The recently departed Al Ahly coach is back in the country planning the way forward for his career after a highly successful 18 months in North Africa.

Reacting to the recent appointment of Zwane and his assistant coach Dillion Sheppard at Kaizer Chiefs, Mosimane admitted that local coaches need an opportunity if they are going to make a success of themselves.

“I cannot say Arthur Zwane won’t make it. You know why I can’t say that? How did I make it? I was at SuperSport United, I was given the chance, and this is where I am,” said Mosimane in an interview with Soccer Laduma.

“So, how do I say it can never happen to him? The question is, is he ready? Does he want it? Because I’ve never heard him say he wants it. I’ve been watching the television interviews; he never said I want it. It was vacant; it was open. He never said he wants it, but because I know him, he is modest. But take it if you want it. Show that you want it.

Mosimane added: “I’m happy for him to be there because I want local coaches to be there. (Stuart) Baxter didn’t make it. So, Arthur has got nothing to lose. I mean, Baxter didn’t do it. I mean, a lot of people didn’t do it there. Steve (Komphela) didn’t do it also; let’s be honest, you know. So, it’s a difficult one there, but you have to do more to bring the team back.”
