Three Springboks have been named in the World Rugby’s 2022 Dream Team at the World Rugby Awards in Monaco on Sunday.
The Springbok trio were among five South Africans who were honoured at the annual World Rugby Awards.
Malcolm Marx, Damian de Allende and Lukhanyo Am were on Sunday night awarded for their stellar form in 2022 after they were included n the World Rugby Dream Team for the year.
Former Springbok wing Bryan Habana received the International Rugby Players Special Merit Award, while former Test referee Tappe Henning was given the World Rugby Referee Award.
Am was nominated for World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year in partnership with Mastercard. In 2022, he was in great shape for both the Springboks and the Cell C Sharks, but a bad injury while on tour in Australia cut short his season.
De Allende and Am have been a great midfield duo for the Springboks in 2022, thanks to De Allende’s strong running, great passing, and excellent defense. Marx has been a powerhouse in the Bok pack, whether he started at hooker or made an impact off the bench, thanks to his strong running, great basics, and ability to steal the ball on the ground.
Ireland had the most players in the Dream Team, with four, including the World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year, Josh van der Flier. South Africa was next with three players.
Australia and Argentina each have one player on the team, while New Zealand, England, and France each have two.
