Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola strongly believes that in form striker Erling Haaland still has a lot more to offer the club after netting his 26th goal.
After Erling Haaland scored four goals in a row, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said that the striker still has more to give.
The Norwegian’s start with the English champions has been very good so far. On Wednesday, he scored twice in City’s 3-1 win away at Leeds, which moved them back into second place in the Premier League table.
Haaland has now scored 26 goals in 20 games since he moved from Borussia Dortmund before the season started.
With his two goals on Wednesday, he became the fastest player to score 20 goals in the Premier League. The 22-year-old did it in just 14 games.
“If he breaks records and scores a lot of goals it’s good because it will help us to win games,” Guardiola said Friday. “When everyone performs to their best the team benefits.
“Since day one we are delighted not just with his goal contributions — that’s why he’s here — but for many things.
“Hopefully he can continue to improve as a football player because I feel he can do better. He’s young, we cannot forget that. I think he has the mindset to do it.”
On Saturday, City hosts Everton. They are five points behind the league leaders, Arsenal.
Guardiola said that England midfielder Kalvin Phillips was overweight when he got back from the World Cup. Phillips could play after being an unused substitute against his old team, Leeds.
“He’s coming back fit,” said Guardiola. “He’s in the condition to train at a high level and we will decide when he plays.”
