Barcelona and Spain star Alexia Putellas was named The Best FIFA women’s player for 2022 at a ceremony in Paris on Monday, walking away with the award for the second successive year running.

The 35-year-old, who has won the Ballon d’Or seven times, replaced Polish star Robert Lewandowski on the FIFA list. Putellas kept the women’s prize, even though she was injured for most of last year.

The 29-year-old beat out English striker Beth Mead, who won the European Championship, and US star Alex Morgan to win the FIFA title. She also won the Ballon d’Or for the second year in a row.

Putellas is still getting better from a serious knee injury she got last July, which kept her from playing for Spain at the Euro in England.

Before that, she had helped Barcelona get to the final of the Champions League, where they lost to Lyon.

Putellas has said in the past that she hopes to be healthy enough to play again this season, but it is still unclear if she will play for Spain at the World Cup in July and August in Australia and New Zealand.
