Champions Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena says he enjoyed the intensity of the game following his side’s goalless draw against Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Brazilians were crowned DStv Premiership champions for the 2022-23 season with six matches to spare, clinching their sixth consecutive league title.

The stalemate also saw Sundowns extend their unbeaten run in the league to 18 matches with six games remaining until the end of the season.

Mokwena says he was pleased with his sides performance and enjoyed the high intensity of the game as he admits that certain matches felt a bit to “easy” for his side.

“It’s a performance that I liked because the intensity was good, we moved the ball very well, we created a lot of final third entries, but the execution and the final pass and final action was not so good today,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV after the game.

“But these things happen. I’m very happy for the clean-sheet. We’ve been conceding and conceding and conceding so congratulations to the team for keeping the clean-sheet.

“It would’ve been nice to win the game in front of our people, but you can’t win them all – you can’t win them all.

“Well psychologically sometimes it feels a little bit easy but I was very happy with how we responded to that.

He added: “We tried to bring Pitso in so that we could move the ball a bit faster and arrive in the final third instead of sending the ball into the final third because sometimes that’s what you think.”

“You think you one0man short you have to rush the actions a bit and then when you rush you open up for counter-attack. So we had to pass more.

“We had to move the ball more, dominate and try to be a little bit more secure which I think we did we arrived in good areas today and on another day we scored one of the two chances we had,” Mokwena concluded.
