Polokwane City were crowned 2022-23 Motsepe Foundation Championship champions on goal difference after securing a commanding 4-0 victory over Pretoria Callies at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Rise and Shine’s victory over Callies earned them automatic promotion back to the DStv Premiership after the final round of fixtures in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Heading into the final fixture Cape Town Spurs were on pole position and were one win away from gaining promotion to the top-flight but they could not get over the final hurdle as they drew 1-1with the University of Pretoria at Athlone Stadium, while Casric Stars squandered their chances after playing to a thrilling 2-2 against All Stars.
Polokwane finished top of the log – level on 57 points with Spurs but with a higher goal difference, while Casric Stars in third position with 56 points.
As a result, Polokwane will now play in the DStv Premiership while Spurs and Casric will battle it out in the promotional/relegation playoff for the last spot in the PSL.
As it stands in the Motsepe Foundation Championship:
