Bayern Munich won their 11th straight Bundesliga title following a last gasp goal by Jamal Musiala to seal a 2-1 win at Cologne as leaders Borussia Dortmund were held 2-2 at home to Mainz.

Musiala, a Germany forward who grew up in England, will be remembered for securing Bayern’s 11th straight Bundesliga title. Bayern barely beat Dortmund on goal difference, which will be remembered for a long time.

Dortmund knew that a win would give them the title, but they were already down 2-0 and Sebastien Haller had missed a penalty after only 25 minutes.

Dortmund scored two goals in the second half to tie the game, but that wasn’t enough. Bayern won the title because they scored more goals.

Bayern’s manager, Thomas Tuchel, told the media after they won the title that it was hard to celebrate because the club had just fired its CEO, Oliver Kahn, and its sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic.

“Instead of celebrating, now we have the next topic” Tuchel said, revealing the decision was made regardless of the result.

“I’ve known the decision since yesterday” the manager said, “I’m trying to process it now.”

“In terms of sport, this is the most bitter and difficult thing you can imagine” said Dortmund manager Edin Terzic, who appeared before the club’s yellow wall in tears.

As the last day of the season approached, Dortmund was two points ahead of Bayern at the top of the table. Bayern knew that they could only win the title if they beat Dortmund and hoped that Dortmund would lose.

After eight minutes, France’s Kingsley Coman scored to put Dortmund, which plays an hour to the north, on notice.

Even though Dortmund had a good start, they were down 1-0 after 15 minutes when Andreas Hanche-Olsen scored from a corner.

When Raphael Guerreiro was brought down in the box, Dortmund got a chance to win, but Sebastien Haller missed the penalty.

Soon after, Mainz doubled their lead when Karim Onisiwo scored from close range. This was when the away team started to mess up the home fans’ plans.

The home team, which had scored 15 goals in its last three home games, got nervous and didn’t have as much power in front of the goal, while Mainz got more aggressive and had several chances on the break.

When there were only 20 minutes left, Guerreiro scored to give the home team hope.
