South Africa U17 international defender Waylon Renecke has signed his first professional contract with EFL Championship outfit Norwich City.
The 17-year-old has been promoted from the Under 18 side and will now join the U21 side for the upcoming season with the opportunity to train with the senior team.
Renecke previously represented England at U15, U16 and U17 before switching allegiance to South Africa, having recently represented their U17 at Africa Cup of Nations.
The defender is relishing the chance to take the next step in his career and showcase his talent and prove his worth with the Canaries.
“I feel very good [about signing],” Renecke told his club’s official website.
“It’s a big moment for me in my career. I’ve made my family proud, so I’m very happy to sign the contract at Norwich.
“Hopefully, I can get many more and the hard work continues. It’s an honour to play and represent the club. The faith they’ve put in me, I can’t thank them enough.
“I’m a centre-back, I’d like to say I’m composed on the ball. I love playing passes, and enjoy reading the play.
“It was an honour to play for the country, my family are from there and to have them supporting me was a great feeling.
“The upcoming season is a big one for me. Hopefully I can push for the Under-21s, establish myself into the squad and move forward.”
