Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena admits he made a “big mistake” during their 1-0 victory over Moroka Swallows in the MTN8 quarter-final on Saturday.
The Brazilians played most of the game with a man extra after Andile Jali was shown his marching orders for a dangerous challenge on Teboho Mokoena.
Mokwena admits that he played “two or three” player out of position to counter being a man up but his tactic did not work in his favour.
“I made a big mistake, which I told the players at half-time,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV after the game.
“After they got the red card, I put two or three players in the wrong position, it didn’t work a little bit and I want to thank my players for accepting my mistake.
“We corrected it a little bit better in the second half and we corrected it and did a lot better in the second half.
“Immediately after that red I also got a little but caught up in the situation and when I tried to take advantage of the things, I committed a mistake.
“I committed this mistake last season already and I told them…
“I can’t [tell you]. But I’m only human. The players also accepted it and we corrected it and we looked a lot better, a lot better in the second half and I can only congratulate my players.”
