Former All Black star Savea joins Super Rugby side Moana Pasifika

Former All Blacks winger Julian Savea has joined Super Rugby Pacific outfit Moana Pasifika for the 2024 season.

Savea and Israel Folau both hold the record for the most tries scored in Super Rugby. During his time with the Wellington Hurricanes, Savea scored 60 tries in more than 150 games.

“Savea’s pace, strength and ability to finish out wide will be a tremendous asset for Moana Pasifika on the field,” said a spokesperson for his new team.

Savea, who was born in Wellington and has Samoan parents, will help a Moana team that has players from Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa.

Tana Umaga, who used to be captain of the All Blacks, will be the coach in 2024.

Savea has been called “The Bus” because of his size and his ability to break through tackles. He has also scored 46 tries for the All Blacks in 54 Tests.

He was a member of the New Zealand team that won the 2015 Rugby World Cup. He scored eight tries in six games, which was the most of any player in the tournament.

He last played for the All Blacks in 2017. His younger brother, Ardie Savea, is a loose forward for the All Blacks right now.

The Hurricanes said earlier this month that Julian Savea was leaving after 11 seasons with the team over two stints, with a two-year break when he played for Toulon in France.
